Personal Injury

In a competitive field the Personal Injury Department offers not only a fast and professional service, but also one which is personal and friendly. Many legal practices have large departments handling claims in bulk, mostly on referralfrom legal expenses insurers. It has been our experience that many clients find the "sausage machine" approach adopted by some firms to be impersonal or lacking user friendliness and responsiveness to their needs. Despite what they may be told to the contrary claimants do have the freedom to instruct whom they choose.

It is our aim to assist the victims of accidents to obtain the best possible award the legal system affords.

Personnel
We have extensive experience of handling all types of personal injury claims. The Department is headed by Senior Litigation Partner Geoff Lamb who qualified as a solicitor in 1975 and was accepted onto the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel on it's inception in1994. Zoe Ashton, a Solicitor of 8 years standing who joined the firm in 1995, also handles accident claims. Both are members of a respected professional group, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, which helps the profession to promote the interests of claimants.

Fees
We were among the first tranche of firms granted a Legal Aid Franchise in personal injury work in 1994.

Legal Aid will continue to be offered to eligible claimants for as long as the Government allows.

However, with the likely withdrawal in April 2000 of Legal Aid from this area of work, other ways of funding litigation are going to become more and more important. Most claims are likely to be conducted on a Conditional Fee basis coupled with an After the Event Insurance Policy which covers the opponent's costs and the claimant's own disbursements (e.g Court Fees and payments to Medical Experts) in the event the claimant loses his case. The Goverment plans that the losing opponent, in addition to meeting the claimant's Solicitors' costs and disbursements, will also have to pay his Solicitor if the case is won. Thus a successful claimant cam look forward to recovering most, if not all, of his outlay and have the peace of mind of knowing that should he be unsuccessful he will not be faced with a massive legal bill.

This firm is committed to providing the best package available to suit the individuals needs and this is something we will discuss in detail with a potential claimant after an assessment of their case.
